Infrastructure & Connectivity
The links that tie Mumbai 3.0 to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune - Atal Setu (MTHL), expressways and planned metro.
Why connectivity is everything here
A region only becomes a city when people can get in and out easily. Mumbai 3.0's case rests on a set of
road, sea and (planned) rail links that shrink the distance between this belt and the rest of MMR.
Atal Setu (MTHL)
The Atal Setu, or Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), is a long sea bridge connecting the Mumbai
side (Sewri) to the mainland near Navi Mumbai/Raigad - dramatically cutting road travel time between
Mumbai and the airport region. It is the single biggest connectivity boost to Mumbai 3.0, tying the
new region directly to South Mumbai.
Roads & expressways
- The Mumbai-Pune Expressway and national highways put the region on the Mumbai-Pune corridor.
- Various coastal, expressway and access-road projects (built and planned) feed the airport and
the NAINA nodes.
Metro & public transport
Navi Mumbai Metro has begun operations on its initial stretch, and further metro/transit links to
the airport and NAINA are planned. Rail (Panvel is a major suburban + mainline junction) already
serves the belt.
How to read this as a buyer
Infrastructure is the whole thesis - but read it carefully:
- Distinguish operational links (already open) from planned/under-construction ones (timelines
can move). A project near an *open* link is very different from one relying on a future one.
- Check the connectivity of the specific node you are considering, today, not just the region's
headline projects.
- For exact routes, stations and timelines, verify with the official agencies (CIDCO, MMRDA, the metro
operator) - dates and alignments change.
